There are 8 billion people in the world and statistics tell us that about 5 billion of them do not know Jesus.  How will they be reached?  In Acts 8, God scatters the church and worked in them and through them to share the gospel with others wherever they went.  He does the same thing today.  As we live Life in the Spirit, we will He will disrupt our comfortability to move us into His higher purposes for our lives.  As we trust the Spirit and allow Him to work through us, more and more people will come to know Jesus just as they did when God sent the early church out in Acts 8:4.

In Galatians 4:4-7, we see what the Christmas story is all about.  In the greatest love story of all, God sent Jesus to be born of a woman in order to redeem us and adopt us into His family.

Jesus became what we are so that we can become what He is.

But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.  (Galatians 4:4-5)

In Acts 7, Stephen is stoned death after sharing and defending his faith before the religious leaders of his day.  As Stephen died, the Spirit led and empowered him to forgive those who were stoning him to death. As we life by the Spirit today, He will lead us to share the gospel in the face of opposition and to forgive those who persecute us as well.

In Acts 5:17-42, the apostles are flogged after being arrested for telling people about the new life they can receive in Christ.  As they are released, they rejoice and count themselves worthy of suffering the same way Jesus suffered for us.  Life in the Spirit for us means that He will lead and empower us to rejoice in our sufferings as He uses them for a greater good.

After being suffering persecution and being threatened for sharing the gospel, Peter, John, and the early church pray for boldness to continue proclaiming the good news of Jesus in spite of the consequences that may come.  Life in the Spirit is the same for us today.  As we depend on the Spirit, He will lead us to pray for boldness and to be used in God's Kingdom work through us no matter what situations and circumstances we find ourselves in.
