The Joanie Stories — Episode 7: "Surprise, Surprise"
A whispered prayer, a wagon rolling off toward the next homestead, and the sound of hooves coming up the road. Joanie has been asking God for one thing for weeks: a horse of her own. She’s even learned to pray the hard part — thy will be done — though she isn’t sure she means it. Then a horse really does arrive, gentle and brown with four white stockings, and Joanie finds out she isn’t the one getting it. What she does next says more than any prayer she’s prayed yet.

The Joanie Stories — Episode 6: "Jilly"
A horse galloping up the dirt road, a sealed telegram, and a father who takes his sweet time reading it. Joanie is certain the news from town is bad news, and every second her dad stays quiet makes it worse. But the message turns out to be better than she dared hope: her cousin Jilly is coming to Copper City, and this time she’s coming to stay. Then Thursday arrives, the road stays empty, and Joanie learns that waiting well is its own kind of faith.

The Joanie Stories — Episode 4: "Who Likes Blueberries?"
Nobody bakes a blueberry pie like Anna Jessup but with the church picnic days away and Dad off on a cattle drive, it's up to Joanie to bring home the berries. She's got a crew, plenty of buckets, and the biggest blueberry patch in Mitchell County. What she didn't count on: Candy Carpenter, the richest, bossiest fourteen-year-old around, riding along and taking charge.
But when the bushes start to rustle, Joanie discovers her crew isn't the only one in these woods with a taste for blueberries — and what happens next just might change one heart nobody expected.

The last day of school has come and gone, and Joanie has big plans for the first morning of summer vacation: pajamas, a good book, and absolutely no getting out of bed. So when Dad throws back the curtains at sunrise and tells her to be dressed for riding in ten minutes, Joanie decides that if she has to obey on the outside, nobody can make her stop being mad on the inside.
What follows is a daddy-daughter day she never saw coming — a ride north through walnut and cedar forest to a corner of Remembrance Ranch she's never laid eyes on, a leap that Blaze takes entirely on his own, and a first for Joanie that involves a jar of night crawlers and a hand-carved fishing pole. Somewhere between the wildflower meadow and the shimmering water, a stubborn heart starts to soften — and by day's end, father and daughter will leave two nameless places on the ranch with names they'll never forget.

Birthday or not, a new saddle isn't much good sitting on a corral rail. Joanie can't wait to try hers out — and Blaze, the big black stallion she's known since the midnight he was born, seems just as eager. This episode looks back at how a wobbly-legged colt earned his name and became Joanie's best friend, before the two of them set off down the river road at a full gallop, new saddle creaking, wind in her hair, the swollen Solomon River thundering alongside.
But just around a bend in the road, a voice cries out for help. The river is running high and fast, someone's in real trouble, and there's no one else for miles. Joanie's father always told her you only get one chance to get things right the first time — and now, with strangers counting on her, she's about to find out what she and Blaze are really made of. Turns out that rope her dad strapped to the new saddle might come in handy sooner than anyone thought.

The morning sun is streaming through Joanie Jessup’s window, and she has no intention of missing a single moment of this particular day. It’s her twelfth birthday on Remembrance Ranch, the Kansas homestead her family carved out of the prairie near the Solomon River more than a decade ago. And birthdays at the Jessup house come with sizzling bacon, a Dutch baby fresh from the wood-fired oven, and at least one little brother who can’t quite keep a secret.
Step back into 1870s Kansas and meet the family at the heart of this new audio drama: Jonathan, the Civil War cavalryman turned homesteader with a guitar and a tender heart; Anna, the fiery redhead who once outrode every boy in Pennsylvania; five-year-old Jimmy, who “learned to whisper in a sawmill”; and Joanie herself—quick to laugh, quicker in the saddle, and nursing a dream that involves a lasso, her horse Blaze, and the state rodeo.
But first, there’s something waiting for her out by the corral. Something wrapped in a big red bow. And it just might be the start of everything.
