Both Boulder County school districts have made strides in improving their graduation and drop-out rates in recent years – especially for low-income students and students of color, who continue to lag their peers. For example, just 60% of economically disadvantaged students graduated on time in Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) in 2010. Last year, 74% did. In this month’s episode of “A Public Affair,” we discuss some of the interventions that are working. Joining the conversation are Centaurus High School students Yesica Colin, recent graduate Katie J., and Colorado Youth for a Change representatives Erica Legrand and Christen Brackett, who work on student retention and drop-out recovery in BVSD.
