Graig Nettles and the Superball Bat (1974)

Listen Later

Today is September 7, 2016. Travel back with me to this day in 1974. We’re in New York, at Shea Stadium, where the temporarily homeless Yankees are playing their home games while Yankee Stadium is being renovated. Today’s matchup is a doubleheader against Detroit in which Yankees third baseman Graig Nettles will hit two home runs on the day, one of which is the game-winner in the second game of today’s contests. But Nettles’ most important hit of the day will be a broken-bat single to center field.
