En este episodio hablaremos sobre COHESION (grammatical y lexical cohesion, casos problemáticos y double cohesive devices)


ALGUNAS DEFINICIONES ÚTILES:

  • COHESION: it occurs when the interpretation of some element in the text is dependent on that of another; in Halliday and Hassan's words, there is cohesion when it is understood that we need some element in the discourse in order to interpret other
  • REFERENCE: how the writer introduces participants and then keeps track of them in the text
  • SUBSTITUTION: special words that contribute ti cohesion by substituting for words that have already been used (one, do, does, did, done, so, same , not, etc)
  • ELLIPSIS: a common cohesive device in texts is to leave out a word or phrase rather than repeating it.

    • Meronymy
    • Semantic field


      • DOUBLE COHESIVE DEVICE: grammatical cohesive device + lexical cohesive device in the same noun group
