This week's guest worked his way from unpaid intern to Grammy Winning Multiplatinum Engineer. Please welcome to The Place, David "Yungin" Kim!

BIO:

Originally from Seoul, Korea, David Kim quickly learned that the standard route of attending a four-year college and climbing the corporate ladder in a cubicle wasn’t for him. He decided to cultivate his passion for the technical side of music at Musicians Institute, graduating with a certificate in audio engineering at the top of his class in 2010 and subsequently landing an internship at Chalice Recording Studios, one of the top recording studios in Los Angeles. Over the next few years, he tirelessly worked his way up from unpaid intern to head engineer.

David was later presented with the opportunity to engineer full-time for Hit-Boy, an American producer, rapper, and songwriter best known for producing smash hits such as “N***as In Paris” by Jay-Z and Kanye West, “Goldie” by A$AP Rocky, “Trophies” by Drake,” and “Clique” by Kanye West, Jay-Z & Big Sean.

Since then, David has transitioned into a part-time gig with Hit-Boy in order to dedicate more of his time to freelancing. He’s worked with notable artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Ariana Grande, DJ Khaled, Mary J. Blige, and Future, among others. Some highlights of his career up to this point include winning a GRAMMY for working on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly as well as recording and mixing Nipsey Hussle’s last song, “Racks In The Middle.” He has worked with artists across multiple genres of music, and his passion for audio engineering has taken him to studios all over the world.
