Founded by Joseph Shabalala during the 1960s, Ladysmith Black Mambazo is a Grammy-winning choral group from South Africa. The group are one of the custodians of South African musical heritage as their music is grounded in

isicathamiya which is a harmony-focused Zulu style of acappella and offshoot of mbube. The group first became known to international audiences when Paul Simon featured them on his 1986 album Graceland. After joining Simon on his 1987 Graceland tour, they became regular headliners on the international touring circuit.

The group won their first Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Recording in 1988 for their album Shaka Zulu and have won the accolade four more times over the past 35 years. Ladysmith Black Mambazo are the most decorated South African artists in Grammy History with their most recent win for the 30th anniversary of the Shaka Zulu album release.
