"Isms" happen in every community. Little did I know, White people can also experience forms of colorism. I spoke with one of my brunette brown-eyed friends about what it was like to grow up knowing your grandmother wished you looked different... more White American. She heard the phrase "no daughter of mine..." too many times to count.
