English Translation:

Sing, goddess, of the wrath of Achilles son of Peleus, that destructive wrath which brought countless woes upon the Achaian's, sent many valiant souls prematurely to Hade's ,and left the heroes themselves prey for dogs and birds of every kind, but so it was willed by Zeus.
