The Government is shoring up a surplus for troubled times ahead.
The Government yesterday, revealed it has achieved a $5.5 billion surplus in the year to June, which $2.4 billion ahead of budget forecasts.
Debt levels are also below 20-percent which is in line with the Government's targets for 2022.
Finance minister Grant Robertson told Mike Yardley the numbers are good, and they need to be.
"We are a small, open economy, susceptible to changes in the world, biosecurity incursion, and susceptible to natural disasters as well."
