Gratitude for Being Set Free 11.28.19

Listen Later

On this day of Thanksgiving, I am very grateful to those who came before, who paved the way to the freedoms I enjoy today.

In our country right now, there are some threats to our constitutional freedoms. Even some cases of physical life or death threats for standing up for what we believe.

It’s disturbing, and yet inspiring.

Most of us are not in the position of William Tyndale who wanted to translate the Bible into English directly from the original Greek text for the general public to read. The Catholic church and the laws of England at that time forbid this because the Bible had been changed for the benefit of the church. If Tyndale printed the Bible from the original text, the church leaders would have been exposed. Also, the general public would have had the ability to go directly to God with their questions instead of going to the church, therefore, freeing themselves from control.

Tyndale spent one year in prison and then was sentenced to die by strangulation, after which his body was burned at the stake. through his efforts, one year later, King Henry authorized the Matthew Bible which was largely Tyndale’s work. He didn’t live to see his dream fulfilled, but in setting himself free to take action on his beliefs, he set the world free.

In my new book The Seven Gateways, I share the often quoted true message to all of us:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

When we set ourselves free, we automatically liberate others.

Typically we are not physically endangered when we step up and share our message. It may feel like we are being strangled by our limiting beliefs, or burned by comments on facebook or even friends and family members.

God gave us the right to be free.

If we are raised in a toxic environment, it can actually feel the most comfortable, (as crazy as that sounds) but we have the right to choose something else.

A baby elephant in captivity is raised to believe it can’t break free from the chain around its foot. Even as a huge adult, the elephant will never even try because it believes it is imprisoned. (Thanks Felecia for that imagery)

We have to first realize we are in prison before we can choose to b
