One of the things I have noticed about consistency within people is the assumptions that are made by others about the way they will show up.
For instance, I was a few minutes late on our Gratitude Call this morning and when I arrived I found 6 participants who were on time, happily chatting away, just waiting for me to arrive. No one was questioning whether I was going to show up or not. I am consistently on the call, so the expectation is that I will be there.
By the same token, I have a friend who is a recovering heroin addict. He has been clean for about 8 months, but if he ever says a word out of the ordinary, or is a little more social than normal, his parents question him about his addiction. Their assumption is that it is normal for him to be on drugs, and that being clean is out of the ordinary.
Even if our inconsistency is related to making a change for the better (because we all take some time to get consistent with a new way of being), we may feel judgment from others. Just know that it is going to happen, and be ok with it! We all do it. We assume things about people because of their past consistency.
When you are trying to change for the better, and there is a glitch in your new consistency, keep your focus on being as consistent as possible, until finally, people begin seeing your new way of being as the norm.
Mary, on our call this morning stated “consistency takes us to completion.” We may eventually get there acting inconsistently. But the road is so more predictable and efficient with consistency.
One of our live callers, Dawnann, said there is magic in the mess. Every new creation starts with chaos. Don’t judge the chaos, or yourself for being inconsistent in the beginning. Babies fall down more often than not when they are learning to walk. We could judge them as being clumsy and say they will never learn. But we know that babies are the best at consistency. They religiously try until they are successful!
Thankfully, God and Christ are consistent. Their version of consistent is being the same yesterday, today and forever. They are the absolute best examples for us to follow. The planets are consistent in their rotation. Nature is consistent. Everything in our world points to consistency. We, as a creation of God, have that same capacity.
