Gratitude for Darkness Passed
After a challenge, I thought originally of the relief I feel when darkness passes and finally I am standing in the light again.
Then I realized how easily I focus on the heaviness of the darkness when I am in the middle of it. And once I emerge from the darkness, there is no longing to return. I find relief in the light.
What that tells me is that we are most comfortable in the light. We are meant to live in the light. The darkness is uncomfortable and every moment we are hoping for light to return.
Cats and other nocturnal creatures can see easily in darkness. Cats are just as comfortable in the dark as they are in the light. Humans needed to invent some form of light to be productive and move about easily in the dark.
When Christ died, there were three days of darkness that covered the whole earth. His light was withdrawn. God and the Angels mourned. Christ is the source of light on Earth.
A couple of our live callers shared about childhood memories of feeling like they were in the dark and instinctively knowing there was light…out there somewhere. Even not knowing the existence of God cannot dampen the human spirit. This, to me, proves we must carry the light of Christ within us.
Our darkness which has passed gives us insight into the pains of others.
Michael, on our call shared a story of happening upon a women who was crying. He felt immediate compassion for her, even without knowing the details of her circumstances. His past challenges, knowing how hard it is to see during the darkest moments of his life, brought deep emotion for him, and he felt her pain.
How grateful I am that the dark nights of the soul always give way to the joyful light of dawn.
At times we are in the dark, seeking the light from others that will lead us back to the true pure light of Christ. At other times, we are the light that is leading others,
And, as I learned today, there is an even greater light we can step into, where the light we are currently standing in, actually feels like darkness.
