Daily Gratitude Call

Gratitude for Insights From the Scriptures

Listen Later

Thanks to Kathy on our live call today for sending me a heartfelt text right after we ended The Daily Gratitude Call. Our subject today suggested that scriptures and connection with God is all that is needed. And that is true. But she reminded me that many times we are so stuck in our own limiting beliefs and habits that we don’t have the capability to connect as we should to those divine trusted sources.

I, myself, was in a dark place when I began my journey of purpose and alignment over 6 years ago. Without the support of a mentor who cared about me and who had been where I then was, I could never have become the person I am today – someone who confidently turns to God and the scriptures for my every answer.

I am the only one who can receive inspiration for myself. I might think I know best for my kids. And I can certainly express my opinion and set a good example. But that is where my influence ends. Each one of us…including our kids…have agency to choose.

Martha, on our call today shared openly about a subject that I believe many of us allow ourselves to get sucked into. When we get frustrated or angry at someone we turn away from our natural soul. When we do that, we spiritually, mentally and even physically declare war on ourselves.

The words she used were so raw and powerful, they painted the picture perfectly of what we literally do to ourselves and our relationship with God when we rebel against that highest and best version of our being.

When we stop doing what is natural to the best version of ourselves, or start doing something that is unnatural, it is an act of warfare. As Martha put it, in essence, “I am willing to go to Hell as long as I can take them with me.”

The answer is surrendering to God, returning to the light where our soul can be at peace. The scripture she found that helped her understand this principle is below.

“…Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” -2 Chronicles 20:15

Mary, on our call talked of getting divine inspiration from God, and then going to a human to confirm or ask their opinion. Having to get confirmation after receiving direct guidance from God is counterfeit. Here is the scripture she referred to:

“O ye wicked and ye perverse generation; ye hardened and ye stiffnecked people, how long will ye suppose that the Lord will suffer you? Yea, how long will ye suffer yourselves to be led by foolish and blind guides? Yea, how long will ye choose darkness rather than light?” -Helaman 13:29 The Book of Mormon

Sometimes the further light and knowledge we need does come from a human. In my experience, there are many sources of good information – books, mentors, other scriptures, etc. But when God speaks, I have learned to obey immediately and perfectly, without asking for someone else’s approval.
