Gratitude for Knowing Your Destination

Listen Later

We pray for an easy journey, but have you ever noticed that if we are going on vacation to an awesome destination, the journey could be horrendous and once we arrive, the journey is secondary to the peace and fun of arriving.

When my husband and I went to Bali a couple years ago, it took nearly 24 hours of airports, flight time, little sleep and lots of walking to get there. Once we arrived, we were treated like a king and queen by our resort hosts and the journey was forgotten, swallowed up in the joy of arriving.

Gratitude in the journey can help even an arduous path seem easier, especially when we are committed to the successful outcome of our final destination.

Regardless of what is happening in the moment, help is available, we can ask for directions if we get lost, and even be carried occasionally if the journey is too difficult.

Most of us Christians see a successful journey returning to our Heavenly Home as a final destination we ultimately desire. We have a detailed map in the scriptures, past and present prophets and teachers, etc. We know the strait path. But what of detours?

Sometimes we create our own detours due to rebellion or distraction. But sometimes detours show up that guide us around an obstacle. I have found myself at these times resisting the detour because it seems the straighter path is straight ahead. But if I push through a barrier that was put there to protect and guide me, I get to suffer for a bit until I find the correct path again.

Fortunately, God can take us anywhere from anywhere. He can orchestrate things in a way that when we choose and seek, we can easily find the path again.

Knowing our purpose is a great place to begin a purposeful journey. Then committing to the journey and taking the first step exhibits faith. When you are committed, you become the influencer. You stop noticing those who try to influence you off your path.

it can be scary to commit. But know this: You cannot know what the next step is, but there is one who does know. He is the way and the light to every path of purpose. We can lighten our path by asking, trusting and following His guidance, every day.

I Give Myself Permission to Take the Inspired Path

  • I am open every day to the next perfect step
  • I accept and act on opportunities as they come
  • I am willing to re-arrange my schedule to take a shortcut
  • I choose the light path
  • I give the burden of knowing the future to divine inspiration
  • I focus on the destination and allow the path to appear before me
