I started out this morning being grateful for the patience of others. I have been working on my book “The Seven Gateways to Integrity in Life and Business” for about 3 years now.
I still remember the first night I announced that I was writing a book, I had 5 people pre-order the book just based on the description I gave them and my credibility for producing awesome content.
They are still waiting…patiently.
So that is what I thought my focus could be today, patient people. But it turned out to be gratitude for my own patience.
During the interim while I finish editing and publish my book, I don’t have to be stressed. I have a system of reminders in place so I won’t forget to reach out to those who are key players in finishing the project. I really don’t have to give any time at all to the book being finished at this point. I have given it over to others who are experts in their field.
During this time of patience, I am observing. I am observing myself and I am also observing what is happening right now in the calm of completion. Every moment has purpose. I can be ok and trust that what is happening right now is perfect even though I am not involved. And there is something I can do right now that is perfect for what’s next for me.
We often think of having to be patient with our kids, but what about the patience that our kids show for us? My kids have had to be extremely patient with me over the past 30 years since my husband and I stepped into parenthood.
When we are in a conversation with someone, it’s nice to be patient and wait our turn to talk. Also, sometimes someone may want to just vent, and it takes patience to sit and listen and not try to fix it for them.
Especially with regard to our interaction with others, I really felt that patience comes from a conscious desire to love. There is a moment when, if someone keeps telling the same victim story over and over, that patience may transition to tough love. A true friend will listen, to a point. Then when enough is enough, it’s ok to give your friend a little nudge. Not try to solve it for them, but help them see the pattern they are creating and invite them to change.
