Gratitude for Rescue

Listen Later

I remember as a teen driver being stranded on the side of the road, or even in the middle of the road and just praying for someone to rescue me.

Relief, gratitude, even joy were some of the emotions I experienced as some good Samaritan stopped to help me push my very old unreliable Vega off to the side and carry me to safety.

We used to rely on the generosity and compassion of our fellow man in those days. Even now, these acts of kindness happen frequently and are very appreciated. But most of the modern world have cell phones now, so it is expected that we can be a little more self-reliant in facilitating our own rescue.

Christ rescued Peter when he began sinking after having the faith to walk on water. Peter called out and looked to Christ for rescue. Christ stretched forth his hand. His hand is always outstretched, but we do need to be self-reliant in looking to Him and taking His hand in order to be rescued.

We have the opportunity to rescue others physically, as in my case of being stranded. We also can rescue others emotionally by taking some of the burden they are carrying by providing a listening ear. Spiritually, we rescue others by providing nourishment of the soul and inviting them to come to Christ and be healed.

When we are in need of rescue, it’s important to stay calm and listen for intuition of what to do. My sister-in-law’s Dad was a police officer who was also on the Search and Rescue team. He had many stories of people who were found in good health because they kept their heads. He also told stories of outcomes, not so positive when panic drove people to irrational choices.

We may be in the middle of turmoil, but we have the ability to step out of it, into a place of calm. It helps us see answers more clearly and also allows us to step out of judgment of others. By taking ourselves out of the storm, we can actually become the means of rescue for ourselves and others.

New Ideas to Consider:

  • I am the calm in the storm
  • I reach up and I am rescued
  • I am engaging daily in a rescue mission
  • My mission is aligned with God, I accept his loving mercy and offer it to others
