Gratitude for The Courage to Change 11.14.19

Listen Later

I have been struggling personally with a blind spot that feels as big as a 6-foot thic

k brick wall.

I find myself doing the same thing every day and hoping for change.

I could chip away day by day at each brick and maybe in a 100 years, I could be through it. Or I have found in the past that if I have the courage to learn, know and discover the limiting beliefs that are at the foundation of this brick wall, it can disappear in an instant.

Our limiting beliefs keep us in our comfort zones. They are created at a traumatic moment when we perceive that our physical safety is at stake (fight or flight mode). If we let go of the limiting belief, our psyche would tell us that we are once again vulnerable and will have to fight for our survival.

The problem is that the trauma is not actually happening right now. But we are still protecting ourselves from it. Crazy, right? But true nonetheless.

It takes courage to change, but before the change can happen, it takes courage to seek the root of the problem and uncover it.

A tree doesn’t care if something is in the way, it grows taller to get past the obstacle. If an aspen tree is surrounded by 100 foot pines, it will grow to 105 feet to find the sunlight. If a car is parked on top of a tree sapling, the tree will continue to grow, and 50 years later, it will have a car in the middle of it.

What if we could view our huge obstacles in a similar way?

One of our live callers, Felicia compared her grief at the passing of her sister as a seunomy of emotion that washed away all barriers, troubles, fear an loss. Rather than crippling pain, she felt a liberating power!

Sort of like my 6 foot thick brick wall being bigger than the fear of death. My new attitude is “Bring It! I have nothing to lose and everything to gain!”

Without the courage to change, “I can’t” becomes our mantra. Just taking off the ‘T’ transforms a fearful vulnerable weakling, into a strong being of light and power who seeks for the weakness and vulnerability of the obstacle…or the opening that is just a little to the right of the locked gate you had been pounding on. (thanks Kathy for that imagery)
