My husband makes me smile. He knows our three cats’ routines and what they like, and he caters to them. It brings him joy to know that he is bringing joy to another soul.
When something makes us smile, it interrupts the mundane activities of the day. Even in survival mode, we can look up and find something to smile about.
An abusive relationship, or a negative work environment can be lightened, if we can smile every day, even for just a moment. A walk in nature alone, noticing a job well-done, allowing ourselves to be overcome with the contagious, uninhibited smile of a child.
These moments make living worthwhile.
One of our live call participants told how she pressed the reset button on the back of one of her grandkids’ heads and now the younger sibling believe there is a reset button on the back of everyone’s heads. What a concept! I think we should all imagine there is a reset button on the back of our heads that immediately shift us into gratitude and…smiling!
Another caller tells of a husband who recently had a stroke when one side of his face couldn’t smile. What a joy and accomplishment it was when they could see all his teeth when he laughed out loud.
I am grateful that I can smile.
