Today is my 33rd Wedding Anniversary. Throughout my marriage, I have experienced several upgrades to my beliefs and my perception of me as a worthy and beautiful person.
When my husband brought up the subject of marriage, we were driving in his Nissan truck. I was so shocked by his proposal that my head whipped around and I glared at him with a wide eyed incredulous look on my face. I had such little self-esteem that my immediate thought was “Why would anyone want to spend the rest of their life with me?”
Today, due to my husband’s undying loyalty and love for me, and much work on my mindset concerning my personal worth, we are still happily together and my opinion of myself (and him for asking me to spend the rest of his life with me even when I didn’t believe I was worth it), has improved exponentially.
Thank goodness for upgrades!
Most of the time, I would say that upgrades don’t feel like moving forward and upward at first. Just like in my marriage, there was a lot of work to be done personally to arrive where we are today.
Many times the need to upgrade takes us by surprise, but I believe it is accurate to assume that the bulk of opportunities to upgrade can be seen coming. If we don’t take the warning signs, it may seem like a total surprise. But if we can take pro-active action when we see inevitable change coming, we feel more in control.
The other side of upgrades is watching someone use go through it. Coleen, on our call mentioned that she is watching her daughter go through an upgrade. From the outside, and possible from the inside too, it looks like a downgrade. But we can have the peace in knowing that God can take anyone from anywhere and bring them back to Him.
An upgrade often comes from a breakdown. Finding gratitude in the present moment is the catalyst to rebuild and regain a feeling of balance.
Thanks to Felicia for reminding me that The Daily Gratitude Call is a safe space to try gratitude until it becomes natural. I am grateful for all the dedicated listeners and participants who make it so powerful!
Imagine the feeling of being upgraded from a coach ticket to first class as you are entering an airplane, anticipating a long flight. That is the feeling that comes when we trade in our old outdated systems and patterns for new modern ideas that save us energy, time and money.
The old adage: “Fake it till you make it”, can be applied as we assimilate new, higher truths. It’s not really lying to ourselves after all. It is speaking the words that more closely align with the upgrade perhaps only we can see within ourselves. It only becomes visible to others after a little practice and physical evidence because we dared speak the words.
Speaking the words, gives us permission to see with new eyes. We see the opportunities and people that we could only discern with an upgraded mindset.
