Daily Gratitude Call

Gratitude for Wisdom in Renewal Process

Listen Later

There is wisdom in destruction. A forest fire is required for certain pine cone seeds to be broken open. Without the fire, those seeds would never become a tree.

I feel like I have been fighting the destruction stage which is a natural part of the renewal process. Today’s Gratitude Call gave me clarity on the wisdom of allowing even the seemingly painful part of the process to happen. I feel a sense of gratitude of being re-born within my current life experience with my new perspective today.

On a farm, the ditches that direct water onto the land are imperative to a healthy garden. A ditch that is choked with weeds has limited flow of water. Water is the life blood of a garden.

Pulling weeds is a good thing to do. But when spring comes and the weeds naturally shoot up overnight, a quick way to get rid of the weeds is to burn them. This is an acceptable way for farmers to quickly remove the bulk of the weeds, especially in their ditches, so they can get on with the more important step of planting and watering.

Similarly, imagine a closet that has become overrun with clothing and other stuff that is no longer useful. The easiest thing to do is completely clear the closet and then ‘plant’ back only those things that are important and valued.

In our own renewal process, we are growing in our understanding daily, of what is useful and what is a ‘weed.’ It serves to have a constant vigil after the purge, to notice if anything is creeping in that doesn’t belong. Then we can just pluck that one unwanted thing. After the purge, we can easily maintain if we are aware and know what we are looking for.

There is wisdom in knowing when it’s time to stop one stage of the renewal process and move on to the next stage. What stage are you in with your renewal process?

  • Do you need to do a full purge to clear a space to create?
  • Have you been burning things down long enough, and it is now time to clear the debris and plant what you choose?
  • Have you planted, and now create some expectation for some evidence to pop up that proves your efforts were worthwhile?

Whatever stage you are in, remember that you can turn to the wisdom of the creation and maintenance of the earth’s systems of renewal and growth as an analogy of life. Spring follows winter, but new growth can only happen after clearing the dead and useless debris of winter and planting what you desire.

New Ideas to Consider

  • Spring is the time to plant
  • I see flowers this year that were planted last year
  • I embrace the work that is required to clear a space for me to create
  • I see every stage of the growth and life process as necessary and beautiful
