“One Out of Ten People”
It sounds like the beginning of a statistic, doesn’t it? “One out of ten people dislike spicy food,” or, “One out of ten people approve of current policies.” This sermon title, however, refers to the one out of the ten leperous people healed by Jesus in Luke’s gospel who actually returned to thank Jesus. He represents the few who are truly grateful for what the Lord has done in their lives. The account of the healing reminds us that many are blessed, but few give thanks. In the case of internationals living in Germany, the statistics are far more disappointing than one out of ten. According to a recent Internations poll 35% of internationals in Germany are unsatisfied with their lives. And that’s just the happy party people who are connected through the Internations organization. But, still, roughly one out of every three people are unhappy with their life! What’s going on? How can we avoid becoming just another statistic?
