Great Tape Results, Part 2

Transcript:

We're talking about some tips to help you get great results when you use masking tape on your projects. I'm Dan Hansen and this is a minute at RepcoLite Paints sponsored by Benjamin Moore.

Yesterday's tip was to use the right tape--there are different tapes for a reason. Use the right one for your situation. Secondly, make sure you take time to prepare your surface! It's pretty obvious, but dust, dirt, and moisture can prevent the tape from sticking well, so wipe down surfaces with a damp cloth and let them dry completely before applying tape.

A third tip: When applying the tape, don't keep it on the roll. Use strips about 3 feet long, and make sure each piece overlaps the previous one where they meet. This makes them easy to remove as a solid piece later. There are other ways to do it--some people prefer to keep the tape on the roll as they apply it. But for me, and a number of painters I've spoken with, we have better luck and make a quicker job of it when we use the shorter strips.

I'm Dan Hansen and that's a Minute at RepcoLite.
