It is close to the end of #HispanicHeritageMonth, which occurs every year between September 15 to October 15. #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth was established in 1988 to celebrate the contributions, culture and history of Americans of Hispanic heritage. Hispanic refers to people that descend from Spanish-speaking populations.
National Hispanic Heritage Month starts in the middle of the month because it coincides with national independence days in several Latin American countries: Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica celebrate theirs on Sept. 15, followed by Mexico on Sept. 16, Chile on Sept. 18 and Belize on Sept 21.
We’ll listen to music of various Hispanic artists this week, from crossover pop stars (Pitbull, Shakira, Gloria Estefan, the late Selena [R.I.P.], Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin); salsa music legends (Hector Lavoe, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Willie Colon, Ray Barretto); reggaeton (Natti Natasha, Ozuna, Daddy Yankee, Bad Bunny), etc.
