Patti and Doug Wood Green State Radio Interviewed Mark Dunlea on his new book, Putting Out the Planetary Fire, an organizing guide for climate educators, students, and activists. This week Green Street radio segment includes part of the interview, mainly on the larger national and international view. The full interview starts with an overview of the recent failure of the NYS legislature to once again take action on several critical climate bills for adjourning for the rest of the year. Many activists will now focus on the Hochul administration's implementation of a state cap-and-trade program. Hochul set off a firestorm of protest when during the budget negotiation she sought to weaken the state climate goals after realizing that her own (inadequate) carbon pricing program will raise the price of using fossil fuels. The need for the climate movement to focus more on eliminating capitalism as the dominant economic and political system is discussed.
