I listened to this on audible books and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. While you won’t find me grappling in a pit with the local village wrestling champion in Africa, nor would I insist on remaining naked if I’m ever arrested while playing the bongos in my birthday suit, however…my mom did sell the oil of Mink back in the day! 

I bonded with Matthew throughout this book in ways that helped me see parts of myself differently, through his lens of bumper-stickers philosophies, wet-dream inspiration from the Universe, and greenlights. 

Not only was the book inspiring, but McConaughey painted scenes with lyrical prose. There was a cadence and rhythm that at times felt like he was the music in a feature film. I loved his description of New Orleans, his story of his dad reviving the bird, as well as the moments when he steps back and philosophizes about his life. 

The voice acting is what you would expect from a talented award-winning actor and helped me see and love the many colorful characters that have peppered his journey.

I came away with a great appreciation for the author as a storyteller. He carried me through a range of experiences and feelings and landed me on the edge of new precipice to reflect upon my own journey. 

Get this one as an audiobook, the narration amps up the enjoyment!
