There's disagreement among employment lawyers about whether an ad for a vegan communications advisor amounts to discrimination.
Animal rights group SAFE has posted it online, requiring applicants be vegan.
Kensington Swan partner, Greg Cain, told Mike Hosking there's no grounds in the Human Rights Act saying you can't discriminate against vegans or non-vegans.
"The bigger question I think is that it all seems a bit crazy, we've got almost full employment in New Zealand and how many vegan communications advisers are there."
Another employment lawyer, Kathryn Dalziel, agrees veganism is not grounds for discrimination under the Human Rights Act.
However, she's concerned about indirect discrimination because being a vegan suggests you uphold a particular political thought.
