Before transitioning his career to machine learning, Luis was a research mathematician. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Michigan, a Masters and Bachelors in mathematics from the University of Waterloo, and worked as a researcher and instructor at the University of Quebec at Montreal.
