Excessive groundwater extraction by humans has caused the Earth's axis to shift, according to a study. The pumping of groundwater, along with rising sea levels, led to a 2.6-foot shift in the poles between 1993 and 2010. Human activities impact the planet's wobble, highlighting our interconnectedness with the environment. Groundwater removal affects the axis shift but not the length of a day or seasons. Pumping groundwater was the second-largest contributor to pole drift. This calls for sustainable water management to mitigate these effects on the planet's stability.
