Do you consider reading to be an acceptable form of punishment for kids? Sounds strange, but one of our friends knows someone that does this: punishes their kids by sending them to their room, to read. 

Should she say something about this or at least offer an alternate solution? Where do the boundaries of parenting friends' children lie?
