It's Group Therapy Thursday day! This is inspired by Joey Walker on 93Q's family!
Dear Ted and Amy,
Our eleven year old son regularly catches his school bus at the bus stop which is about half a black away from our house. We live in a really safe neighborhood and there are other kids that wait for the bus there, so we don’t have a problem with him walking to the bus stop every morning. But this is the disagreement that my wife and I are having. Every time there is any kind of inclement weather, she says that I have to leave for work early, and let him sit in the car until the bus comes. I kind of got it when it was really snowy or cold. But yesterday, it was RAINING and she said that he couldn’t wait at the bus stop outside. I don’t ever remember in any kind of weather, an option of a warm and dry car being available for me when I was growing up. No matter what the weather, if there was school, my parents assumed I’d get to the bus stop and dress accordingly or bring an umbrella. I think we’re setting a bad precedent. Have times changed so much that kids can’t fend for themselves when it comes to the bus stop or am I the harsh parent when it comes to this?
