It's Group Therapy Thursday!
Dear Ted and Amy,
My family just moved into our first house. It's in a rural area and we have a lot of property but we have neighbors that are on the same street. We are very excited and everyone seems very nice. The issue is that there apparently was a bad crash in front of our house years ago and a child was killed. The family still lives around here and the mother continues to keep a road side memorial up of flowers, balloons and stuffed animals and other items in remembrance. The items are just left there continuously so they get worn and muddy and it looks pretty shabby. I am so very sorry for their loss and I know that this is the way that she copes with her grief. But I have to say that it's creepy and even though it's down by the road, it's on our property! Our kids are also pretty freaked out about it. My husband and I would like to remove it but we don't want to start off on the wrong foot as this is a small close knit community. Any ideas how we can suggest that maybe it's time she grieves another way and lets us enjoy our new front lawn without a memorial in the middle of it?
