Dear Ted and Amy,
I work with someone who I have discovered is a total narcissist. There are 4 of us in our department and she is the newest member of the "team". When she started, we welcomed her with open arms. Looking back she loved bombed the heck out of us when she first started - always threw money at us when we got lunch and wouldn't accept change back, sickly sweet "love your outfit", "you look so pretty today", always asked if she could help us with any work on our plates. Fast forward about a year and a half and things have totally changed. She is quick to run to management if she feels "disrespected". She is sneaky and manipulative. This includes when we need to correct something that had an error .. she does NOT take correction well at all, which now makes the 3 of us overthink and are hesitant to correct anything she has done wrong. This has caused so much frustration because we feel we are held to a higher standard and she is always playing the victim. She is doing the exact thing she accused us of doing - "creating a hostile work environment". I've spoken to my therapist in length about her! I guess my question for the listeners is .. how do we move forward and work with her professionally without getting frustrated by her lies, tattletales and combative responses to us? I just want to do my work and not deal with the drama!! I have been working on shutting the door to my office a lot which is kind of sad and isolating.. Thanks everyone!!
