Sinister Silhouettes w/ Tasha Pierce

Growing Up Buttafuoco

Listen Later

Let me tell you, growing up in the ‘90s was something else.  The societal rules were far more blurred than they are today- and I think that it is our responsibility to call out bad behavior to improve our relationships with one another.  I said that because I argue with friends on this point regularly. I graduated from high school in 1991. When I was in school it wasn’t unusual for students and teachers to be romantically involved.  I never had an inappropriate relationship, but I was propositioned. Looking back with hindsight, I talked to one of my girlfriends about how garbage it was that these teachers abused the trust and took advantage of those young girls.  She argued that she had been involved with a teacher and she had pursued the relationship. And you know what? It’s normal for young people to develop a crush on some adults. The thing that bothers me is that these adults didn’t show the restraint to avoid acting on those urges.
