Psalm 1

The book of Obadiah warns that pride and cruelty toward others bring God’s judgment, as seen in Edom’s downfall, but it also points to the greater hope we have in Christ, who takes away our “rap sheet” of sin through the cross. Because of Jesus, we can stand forgiven before God, live with love toward others instead of bitterness, and share the hope of restoration found only in Him.

The downfall of Edom in Obadiah shows that pride deceives us into thinking we are secure and self-sufficient, but true security and worth are found in God’s grace through Christ, not in our achievements, possessions, or successes.

This sermon offers hope by showing how God can bring purpose, healing, and eternal restoration even through life’s deepest evils and tragedies.
