Washington state rapper Dyrect curates his music from his personal experience and others around him. Growing up in the 90’s in a rough neighborhood and then becoming educated gave Dyrect a unique perspective in life he calls “being well versed on both sides of the fence”. Born Robert Lowe the Bremerton native grew up with a legally blind mother who had a love for music; specifically, the “Motown era” in which she grew up in. Because they were so poor and didn’t have many resources Dyrect wrote music all day in multiple genres and eventually fell in love with “hip-hop” (pencils and paper are cheap). This gave Dyrect an edge over most his peers as he got his 10,000 hours in very early and that made him known in his town by high school. Moving to Portland in 2007 for college Dyrect began to branch out and let out music on his own. He is best known for his last solo project “Just Tappin In” which was released in 2023 and working with local Portland hard hitting producer “Drae Slapz”. Dyrect makes music for those who come from an underdog position and refuse to quit. Dyrect’s artistic expressions both musically & visually represent the complicated reality of an urban African American in the 21st century. Dyrect music takes fans on a roller coaster ride of highs and lows but in the end leaving the fans with a feeling of astonishment and happiness.
