Pastoral succession is a relay race that must be finished well. For a successful transition, the runner who is passing the baton must keep running to the end of his race, the runner receiving the baton must already be running, both runners must be heading in the same direction, and there must be a timely release of the baton for momentum to be gained. Senior Pastor John Greene admonishes us to not hold to the past, keep the main thing the main thing, and guard the gospel.
