Guard Your Heart - Pastor Stevan

Listen Later

In a culture that constantly tells us to "follow our heart" and "trust our instincts," this sermon provides a biblical counter-perspective. Drawing from passages in 1 Samuel 24, Proverbs, Jeremiah, and the Gospels, the sermon warns against the dangers of blindly trusting our own hearts and emotions.

The human heart is described as "deceitful" and "desperately wicked" - our feelings and instincts often lead us astray. Instead, we are instructed to "guard our hearts" and allow God to be the true guide for our lives. Practical ways to do this are explored, such as feasting on God's Word, seeking His wisdom for every decision through prayer, and surrounding ourselves with godly community for accountability.

Ultimately, like Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, we must surrender our will to God's will, trusting in His path rather than stubbornly following our own desires. While difficult, this is the way of righteousness for Christ's followers. The sermon is a powerful call to humbly submit our hearts to the Lord's guidance instead of buying into our culture's dangerous mantra of self-trust.
