Listen Later

Let’s break it down step-by-step using simple assumptions:

📊 Population of India: 1.3 Billion

➡️ Rural:Urban Split = 70:30

• Rural = 900M

• Urban = 400M

🏡 Average Household Size: 4 people

• Rural Households = 900M / 4 = 225M

• Urban Households = 400M / 4 = 100M

💳 ATM Card Penetration:

• 70% of Rural Households → 0.7 * 225M = 160M cardholders

• 90% of Urban Households → 0.9 * 100M = 90M cardholders

👥 Total ATM Users Estimate:

Urban:

• 10% have 2 cards → (10% of 90M) * 2 = 18M

• 90% have 1 card → (90% of 90M) = 81M

➡️ Total Urban ATM Users = ~100M

Rural:

• 100% have 1 card → 160M

➡️ Total Rural ATM Users = 160M

🏧 ATM to User Ratio Assumptions:

• Urban: 1 ATM per 500 users

• Rural: 1 ATM per 2000 users

📌 Final ATM Estimate:

• Urban: 100M / 500 = 200,000 ATMs

• Rural: 160M / 2000 = 80,000 ATMs

✅ Estimated Total ATMs in India = 280,000

📚 Note: This is a top-down estimation based on population, household size, and card usage behavior.
