Guest Show: The Protector vs Red Star

Listen Later

When a mysterious super powered titan begins destroying downtown Republic City, The Protector leaps into action to stop mad man's carnage. But is the Protector powerful enough to take on another superhuman? Or has he finally met his match?   Narrator - Emmanuel Mendes-Chumaceiro The Protector - Tom Proprofsky Robert O’Reilly - Heath Harper Red Star - Chris .R. But because I was never able to complete my printed comic run of the Protector, it never happened. But after I made the Avenger radio play, I threw caution to the wind and decided to finally flesh it out. The goal was to show that the Protector is more than just a Superman archetype. He's a human being with his own set of flaws. He is not perfect, even though he tries to be. Showing him coming face to face with the polar opposite of himself is pretty much the scariest thing for him. He got to look into the mirror and see his worst reflection staring back.   I also wanted to do a little world building with this story and address how the Protector operates as a crime fighter, without having to don the cliche'd pair of glasses to hide his identity. I never understood how unmasked superheroes, especially in present day, manage to stick around and conduct interviews with the press, yet never have to worry about facial recognition. I think having the Protector make the conscientious decision to keep a low profile in both of his lives helps make him a little more plausible.   As for the Red Star, I wanted to keep his motives very simple. This guy has an agenda and does not want to deal with any unforeseen threats. He is not the typical villain though. He does not want to take over the world. He doesn't want money. Essentially, the guy just wants to be left alone, and wants to ensure nobody will ever mess with him. However sometimes, you have to say you want to be left alone very loudly.   I didn't want this story to be wrapped up with a nice, neat bow. Because that's not how life works. Hell, who even won the fight? Was Red Star truly bested? Or did he actually get inside the Protector's head? Hopefully it will make you think a little bit.
