Hey everyone
For todays episode I was able to bring on a good friend of the Pod, and the founder of Waadl, or WAADL, which stands for Weekly attempts at Drawing Laughs, which is a growing collection of sketches and cartoons that are in many cases accompanied with long form articles that get deep into the inspiration and meaning of the sketch. And as you can gather from what WAADL stands for…the sketches are satirical in nature. In the words of the founder of WAADL and quote “ WAADL is committed to comedy with credibility”
The primary backdrop of this conversation is, and you could have guessed this if you’ve already seen some of the sketches at waadl.com, is the current situation in the US, which, isnt great. There has been a sharp drift towards authoritarianism and anti-intellectualism. As much as the word may sound over used, much of what we are experiencing here in the US matches up with textbook definitions of Fascism. That’s not an exaggeration, thats just the unfortunate reality of what we are experiencing.
We talked about a lot of things, like current events, Trump 2.0, the war in Ukraine, Putin, Religion used as a means to control and shape public opinion….. We talked about Authoritarianism, the conditioning effects of propaganda, the susceptibility of masses to fall prey to fake news and manipulation, combatting fake news, the processes that go into testing common narratives and myths we’ve been raised with, and in general we talked a lot about the mass psychosis and political decay that our country is experiencing. As Patriots, these were not easy discussions to be had. But we had them, and we thought that maybe, having these discussions would inspire you to re-think the way we as a society have these discussions, or don't have these discussions with our fellow Americans who have in some cases, quite literally, gone off the deep end.
Please check out WAADL at waadl.com and give some of these sketches a look, and the articles a read. And of course, support the Weekly Attempts at Drawing Laughs!
