Nepali Cinema Industry has gifted us with some exceptional filmmaker and screenwriter, all coming from different backgrounds and different regions. When it comes to making films close to reality & the dark side of the society, Tsering Rhitar Sherpa is the man and is undoubtedly one of the best talents in the Nepali industry. His contemporary style of filmmaking may not be everyone's cup of tea and yet his narrating style is very unique & different.
His first film, Mukundo: Mask of Desire, about a traditional woman healer who had killed a female patient was Nepal's official entry for Oscars. His second feature "Karma", about two Buddhist nuns’ journey from the Mustang region was shown at the San Francisco International Film Festival, Fukuoka International Film Festival (Japan), Tokyo International Film Festival, Vancouver International Film Festival (Canada), Goteberg International Film Festival (Sweden) and Fribourg International Film Festival (Switzerland). He made various documentary films, including "Tears of Torture" in 1994, a 27-minute documentary about a Tibetan nun traveling through the Himalayan mountain passes to escape Tibet. Tsering Rhitar Sherpa continues to make documentary and feature films with the production company Mila Productions.
