CHANGES AT THE TOP AS WITTUR/SEMATIC DEAL CLOSES
Walter Rohregger has resigned as CEO, and Daniel Wiest has resigned as chief financial officer (CFO) of Wittur Group as its merger with Sematic is expected to close on April 1. Both will remain associated with Wittur in advisory roles. Frank Schulkes, former CFO and executive vice president of GE Healthcare, has been named CFO. Overseeing the CEO office until a replacement is found are Schulkes and Sergio Biglino, Wittur's executive vice president for Asia Pacific, Marketing and Key Accounts Management, along with a subset of other senior managers.
SCHINDLER TO CUT 120 JOBS AT SWISS FACTORY
Schindler confirmed to ELEVATOR WORLD that it plans to cut 120 jobs at its factory in Ebikon, Switzerland, citing strong growth in Asia and high production costs in Switzerland, according to a report in swissinfo.ch. The Ebikon factory employs approximately 200 people, and the cuts would become effective by the end of 2017. Some of them will be achieved through internal transfers and early retirement. The plan is to transition the Ebikon factory into a design center.
GLITTERY GUITAR WOULD HOUSE HOTEL ROOMS IN FLORIDA
Leaders of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, have proposed a 34-story, guitar-shaped building housing 800 hotel rooms, The Architects Newspaper reported. Seminole officials believe the building would fuel international tourism. It would serve as an expansion to the resort's existing property, and bring the total number of hotel rooms to 1,273 and add a nightclub, five restaurants and a US$100,000 swimming pool. No timeframe was given.
