A 911 call reports screaming, fighting, and “power tools” in the night. A couple days later, police are at the door of a small home in Flagstaff, Arizona and they hear a gunshot. What follows is one of the most unsettling parts of the Mea Brodie case: the calm, the compliance, and the sense that she’s operating from a totally different reality than everyone around her.

We break down the timeline from the neighbor allegations to the Mother’s Day gun-store trip where a firearm is framed as “self-protection,” then we rewind to the bodycam moment where officers realize something is horribly wrong. From there, we dig into the handwritten notes that read like a one-sided conversation, the confusing mix of pills in the room with a reportedly clean drug test, and the interrogation clips where Mea talks about an “awakening,” multiple realms, a war between light and dark, and an “advisor” telling her to wait for an attorney.

The big question we wrestle with is what explains the voices. We discuss mental health and psychosis, but we also explore a spiritual warfare lens, including the idea that substances can “thin the veil” and make influence stronger. We bring up Dr. Jerry Marzinsky’s work and why patterns in “voice” content matter, then end with a practical takeaway: if you’re going to stare into dark stories, you need a way to step back out, and for us that means prayer and staying grounded.

St. Augustine's Prayer:

Visit we beseech thee O Lord, this habitation & drive far from it all snares of the enemy; let thy holy angels dwell herein to preserve us in peace, & let thy blessing be ever upon us. Through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen.
