Jim Stanley, a slow-thinking but honest rancher, finds himself accused of theft after an altercation at the Cherokee Palace saloon. The saloon owner, Mingo, claims that Stanley stole from his gambling table and assaulted him. Marshal Matt Dillon arrests Stanley, but as he investigates further, he uncovers inconsistencies in Mingo's story.
