This is Artificial Lure bringing you your local Lake Guntersville fishing report for August 27th, 2025.

Weather’s finally backed off from last week's scorcher—folks on Instagram are loving these cooler mornings, with today’s temps starting around the high 50s and climbing into the low 70s by midday. Dawn broke at 6:17 this morning, and sunset’s set for 7:19 tonight. Winds should be light, skies mostly clear, making it perfect for a full day out on the water.

Lake Guntersville’s fish activity is looking perky—solunar data puts today as a “good” fishing day, with peak bites expected between 1:14 and 3:14 PM, and minor feeding windows just after sunrise from 7:30 to 8:30 AM. If you’re planning to hit the lake, set your line early or settle in for that afternoon flurry.

Bass have been biting well, especially with the pressure change and slightly cooler temps. Tournament anglers, according to Bassmaster, have been culling limits with ease—catching fish is no issue, but sorting through the smaller ones for bigger buckets has kept things competitive. Most recent catches have been largemouth in the 2-4 pound range, with a few chunky smallmouth showing up around submerged timber and rocky points.

Best baits this week are all about crankbaits and finesse rigs. Local TikTokers testing shallow-water crankbaits are reporting great smallmouth and largemouth action along stumps and submerged wood. The Strike King Hardliner, a flatsided crankbait, seems to be the hot ticket for putting more bass in the boat, per LandBigFish’s recent product spotlight. On the finesse side, Ned rigs are drawing plenty of bites, especially for those fishing near grass lines and drop-offs—Jay Sunfish’s feed confirms steady catches with the classic green pumpkin and black pearl colors.

If you’re chasing cats, blue catfish records haven’t been smashed recently, but a few hefty cats have come on cut shad drifted near deep channel bends. If you want the numbers game, try chicken liver or stink bait near the causeways around dusk.

Crappie action’s been steady but not red hot this week. Most folks pulling slabs have been spider rigging minnows tipped with chartreuse jigs over creek mouths, especially in deeper water first thing after sunrise.

For hot spots, here’s what’s cooking:
- The **Mid-Lake Causeway**: Bass are inhaling crankbaits around the bridge pilings and submerged vegetation. It’s crowded at times, but the numbers don’t lie—this is where a lot of limits are filled.
- **Goose Pond Area**: Classic early-morning crappie haunt. Try the creek channel edges and drop-offs with live minnows or small curly tails.

Lure-wise, bring these in your tackle box:
- Flatsided crankbaits (especially in shad patterns)
- Ned rig finesse plastics
- Spinnerbaits with chartreuse skirts for stained water
- Minnows or small jigs for crappie

Bait shop owners have noticed a run on natural scents and colors, so if you can’t snag your favorite crank, downsize and go natural—especially with the clearer, cooler water moving in.
