I have had my eyes on three men whose names begin with R for a while now(oddly two out of three are named Russell)and recently ProducerHusbandCharlie linked me to an article about Rick Rubin’s(my number one para-social nemesis)fairly new podcast and the unsavory characters he has chosen as his first guests. Woody Allen alone should raise enough red flags in this day and age. 

   Anyone who knows me is aware that I have side-eyed Rick Ruben for a long time for his tendency to allow people to inflate his actual tangible contributions to great albums. He is actually well documented as saying he doesn’t touch the knobs, he is QUOTED as saying he has no technical ability and he is payed for his ‘confidence in his taste.’ There is certainly a place for putting fresh eyes or ears on art for perspective and growth but he seems to cross the line to taking credit for creating what he’s merely curating.  More disturbing is the company he keeps, and his bold and misleading assertions about AI.

  The two Russels(one of whom co-founded Def Jam Records with Rick Rubin, to highlight how birds of a grift feather flock together)are both men who clearly crave power, influence, and fame but have historically tried to project some kind spiritually awakened, yogic presence which is incongruous with the public life they are leading in clear view, not to speak of the shadowy predatory behavior that is coming to light in recent years.
