Something that makes gravel events unique is the people that come from all over to attend. The Abia Holy Cow is pretty close to Des Moines, but folks from Missouri, Nebraska, Illinois and even from further away show up to ride the Monroe county roads. One of our 50km podium winners, Gwen Barrett made the trek with her husband to Albia and came away with a 3rd place finish!
It was great getting to know Gwen. She has used cycling to strengthen her marriage, make some transformational fitness changes, and challenge herself in so many ways. We talk a bit about her 500 mile ride across most of New Mexico, signing up for back to back races, and what life on a tandem bicycle might mean for her soon. It’s a great episode!
