Gwenda was born into an artistic family. Growing up, Gwenda’s mother studied art and design and taught her about color at an early age. From then on Gwenda looked at the world differently. Her brother is a sculptor and a photographer, and sister is a dancer, composer and a musician. Her friends were always artists and throughout her life, she has been surrounded by creative people.
She began her career was as a writer and wrote about art, architecture and design. Then married a gallery owner. They moved to Chicago and opened a gallery together. Arriving in Chicago in 1981 at a time when Chicago’s cultural scene was just about to break wide open they became the 4th gallery in a brand new gallery district called River North–an area of old warehouse buildings where few businesses dared to inhabit because it was close to the projects. The space was vast—10,000 square feet and vacant. Challenging–but what an opportunity! Gwenda brought artwork from California to a new frontier in Chicago. She helped to discover new talent in the Midwest. Crowds of people showed up at the openings. We attracted so much excitement that within a year there were 12 galleries in the building. Two years later there were 25 and the throngs of people were still coming.
After 20 years with a gallery, she wanted to make a change and decided to move back to California. Gwenda wanted to change the way she work in the Art World, and share knowledge. The art world in California is really different from what she was used to. Gwenda has been mentoring artist, offering individual and group coaching programs, and being an artist’s agent to find gallery representation. All of this work connects people with artists and artists with the larger art world.
It’s a way she can make a difference that truly matters!Website: http://www.artambassador.net/
