Fuerte and Fearless: The Podcast

Hablando de AfroLatinidades with Daniel Morales-Armstrong

Listen Later

In today’s episode of Fuerte and Fearless, our host is joined by Afro-Boricua educator and historian, Daniel Morales Armstrong. Daniel is a joint PhD candidate in African Studies with a focus on 19th-century Black Puerto Rican history. He has taught courses at Caribbean Diaspora courses at UPenn and has spearheaded Afro-Latinidad-focused studies abroad for high school New Yorkers.
Growing up Afro-Latino, society often viewed Daniel through a binary lens; Latinx or African American. But coming from both descendants, Daniel felt it was his duty to learn more about the history of his people, but soon realized how inaccessible that information was.

Tune in as they chat about:
The myth of racial democracy – a distraction from racial identity.
Paying homage to our racial roots while also respecting racial distinction
Puerto Rico’s three ethnic racial roots
and more...
